Man: Hmm, I'm not sure that's true for everyone. The café next to the bank was packed when I went past.

Woman: Maybe. The other thing is that older people find it hard to get there now. The nearest bus stop is quite far away, so they really need to make it easier to get there by bus.

You hear a woman talking about giving up her car.Escuchas a una mujer que habla de haber dejado el coche.

Mostrar el texto

Two years ago I sold my car. At the time, everyone thought I was mad, because I live in a village and the nearest supermarket is eight kilometres away. I won't pretend it's always easy. In winter, waiting for a bus in the rain is no fun at all, and I've had to say no to a few invitations because I couldn't get home late at night. But honestly, I don't regret it for a moment. I'm fitter than I've ever been, because I cycle almost everywhere, and I've saved a lot of money on fuel and repairs. What surprised me most, though, was how much I enjoy the journeys now. On the bus I read or chat to neighbours, which I never did when I was stuck in traffic on my own.

You hear a teacher talking about homework.Escuchas a un profesor que habla de los deberes.

Mostrar el texto

People often ask me whether children get too much homework. My answer usually disappoints them, because I don't think the amount is the real problem. What matters is what the homework asks children to do. Copying out twenty sentences teaches very little, however long it takes. On the other hand, a short task where pupils interview a grandparent about their childhood can lead to some of the best work I see all year. So when parents complain, I tell them to look less at the clock and more at the task itself. That said, I do think schools should agree on a limit, because pupils with five teachers can end up with five big projects in the same week, and that isn't fair on anyone.

Pregunta 21

What is the teacher's main point?

Ver respuesta

Respuesta correcta: B — The type of homework matters more than the amount.

¿Por qué? He says the amount is not the real problem: what matters is what the homework asks children to do.Dice que la cantidad no es el problema real: lo importante es qué piden los deberes.
